Popular South African music producer and Amapiano hitmaker DJ Sumbody has passed away.
In the wee hours of Sunday, November 20, the hitmaker was fatally shot in Johannesburg.
According to local news outlets, unidentified shooters approached DJ Sumbody and his entourage’s car on Woodmead Road and fired a barrage of bullets at it.
The performer and one of his bodyguards were hit by the hail of gunshots and perished instantaneously.
The extraordinary survival of a third person said to be one of DJ Sumbody’s bodyguards, has left him or her in severe condition.
DJ Sumbody was scheduled to perform at the All White Veuve Clicquot Picnic on Sunday before the attack.
It has not yet been determined why DJ Sumbody and his group were the targets of a horrific attack.
The Gauteng Police confirmed the attack and said they are looking for suspects and looking into what exactly happened in Woodmead that resulted in a gunshot.
In a statement, Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said:
“At before 12.30 am, police were notified of a shooting on Woodmead Drive. Police arrived on the site and discovered two victims of gunshot wounds inside a VW Golf. A driver and a passenger were both pronounced deceased at the site.
The third victim, who was driving a BMW X5, reportedly had bullet wounds and was brought to the closest medical facility.
“Gauteng acting provincial commissioner Major-General Tommy Mthombeni has used all available tools to find the shooters’ suspects.
“Police ask anyone with information to phone the crime stop number or go to the nearest police station in order to aid in the investigation or the capture of the offenders. Any smartphone can download the “my SAPS App,” which allows for anonymous information submission.
