BRT Passengers to pay extra N100 from July 13

The Lagos state government announced that there will be an increase of bus fares on all routes by using Bus Rapid Transit ( BRT).
BRT Passengers to pay extra N100 from July 13
This was confirmed by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority ( LAMATA), in a statement issued on Thursday.
It was noted that Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu approved an additional N100 increase in fares on all routes.
Effective July 13, the new fares will be in effect
LAMATA stated that this decision was made in response to rising diesel prices and a lack of spare parts for bus repairs.
According to the statement, “To maintain the operations of regulated buses services in Lagos State,” the State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwoo-Olu approved a flat rate hike of N100 in bus fares all over Lagos State for all Bus Rapid Transit ( BRT) and standard routes. This increase will take effect Wednesday 13 July 2022 and is intended to ensure the sustainability of the BRT standard route and other routes.
“Operations of this transport scheme have been hindered by rising input costs and the consequent high number of buses that are out of service due to lack of spare parts.
“For example, the rapid increase in diesel pump prices from N187 to N830/litre from August 2020 to June 2022 had a significant impact on the optimal performance bus operating companies, leading to the withdrawal buses from operation and longer wait times at bus stations.
“The governor consented to the fare hike and also approved a plan for a bailout of bus operators companies to offset the effects of the harsh operating environment, safeguard private partnerships investment, and prevent the demise formalised bus operations from the state.
“With the rise in bus fares, Ikorodu-TBS will now be N600 cheaper than N500, while Berger to Ajah costs N700 more than N600. Oshodi to Abule Egba will cost N450 from N350 and Abule-Egba-CMS-Obalende will attract a fare of N600.”
