Dominion Okoro, the housemaid of late Madam Maria Igbinedion, mother of ex-governor of Edo state, Lucky Igbinedion, was found guilty of killing the 85-year-old woman on December 2, 2021, at her home in GRA Benin City before fleeing with her jewelry by Justice Efe Ikponmwonba of the Criminal court 1 in Benin city, Edo state.

Okoro, who had been the deceased’s housemaid for years, killed her in order to take her money and other belongings. Okoro said that her late boss never insulted her when she was arrested.

To carry her money, I killed Mama (Madam Maria Igbinedion). I wasn’t offended by her. In December 2, 2021, at 12:01 a.m., I hit her on the head with a stool while she was asleep on her bed. She screamed for aid, but only the gateman was present, and he did not hear her. Mama passed away later.

I didn’t leave the house with Mama’s N100,000, watch, and jewelry until 4 a.m. on December 2, 2021. I managed to get away to Cross River State before being apprehended by police.

Dominion and her sister were taken into custody after her confessed testimony. Patience Okoro, her sister, was charged in court.

Dominion was found guilty on all three of the charges brought against her by Justice Ipkonwonba, who handed down the verdict in the case on Monday, June 20. Dominion received a life sentence for count two, which involved putting hazardous drugs to the late Madam Igbinedion, while the court condemned her to death by hanging for murder and armed robbery.

The sister of the defendant, who was accused of being an accessory after the fact to count four’s murder, was released and found not guilty.
