Police arrest suspected female ritualist with N166,700 cash and school uniforms in Kwara

In the Kulende area of Ilorin, the Kwara State Police Command detained a suspected female ritualist.


The arrest was made in the early hours of Thursday, March 17 by the personnel of Kulende Divisional Police Headquarters, Ilorin, in collaboration with residents of the community, according to the command’s spokesperson, Ajayi Okasanmi, who confirmed the news in a statement.

The suspect is currently being held at the Kwara State Police Headquarters’ Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for further investigation.

When the suspect, who appeared to be mentally ill, was apprehended, she had school uniforms, notebooks, textbooks, and cash in various denominations totaling N166,700:00, according to Ajayi.

It was also said that when the suspect was caught at around 6:00 a.m., a man in a black SUV Jeep was located with her, and that the man zoomed away as soon as he spotted the presence of the police

According to the police spokeswoman, the woman admitted that the fleeing male had sexual intercourse with her.

The statement states, “Intelligence provided to the Command caused the mounting of surveillance around the region which was the base of the suspected ritualist, which resulted in her arrest today 17/3/2022 at around 0600hrs,” according to the statement.

“During the arrest of the culprit, a man in a black SUV Jeep located with the suspect raced away as soon as he noticed the police.”

“School uniforms, notebooks, textbooks, and money of various kinds totaling one hundred and sixty-six thousand and seven hundred naira (#166,700:00) were discovered in her hands during the arrest.”

“At the time of the arrest, the suspect indicated that the male met with her to have sex with her and give her water,” he said.

Police were still attempting to apprehend the fleeing male in the SUV, according to the PPRO.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police has ordered a discreet inquiry into the situation, as well as the suspect’s transport to a hospital to determine her mental health status.

Meanwhile, Mr Kudus Saheed, a resident of the Kulende hamlet, said the suspect had been living in a shack on the side of the road for almost three years.
